A day at the high Moors (de Hoge Venen, les Hautes Fagnes)

Today we walked a 12 km route in the high Moors, near Mützenich, at the border between Germany and Belgium. The day started cold, windy and rainy and initially we found it difficult to see and enjoy the beauty of this walk.

The initial part of the route took us through dense vegetation, and it took several kilometers before we entered the open space that we normally associate with the moors.

But once in the open we really enjoyed the landscape and the route, which led us over many wooden bridges.

The landscape became more beautiful as well.

Apart from the landscapes there were many small details to photograph as well, like fungi:

And orchids:

Although, taking the orchid photos wasn’t very easy on the small bridges. It felt like doing yoga, and taking on an awkward chair pose 😅.

All in all, we really enjoyed this walk; it didn’t start out great, but as we walked the route, it became better and better. We returned home tired, but extremely satisfied 😊.
