More patterns

Exploring patterns on the beach yesterday tasted for more. Because of the predicted rain today I decided to go to the northern beach, which is quite close to my apartment, and search for some more different patterns. The weather was not as forecast, instead of rain I had icy snow and with a hard south-eastern wind it felt unbearably cold. I tried to depict that in my photos of the surroundings.

Despite the biting cold I went onto the beach, it was completely frozen and very different from the beach I visited yesterday. Nonetheless, searching for compositions I started to see many patterns, some on a larger scale, some on a more ‘intimate’ scale. Not all compositions worked out though because of a lack in contrast in the snow. Here are the ones that I think turned out really well (click on the previews to see them in the aspect ratio I intended).

All in all I stayed for only one hour on the beach before my fingers and toes started to freeze off. Buit it was worthwhile. And I am surprised by the different feel the two beaches gave me. To me the northern beach is more isolate and with the eastern oriented winds felt more barren. The western beach is more protected from those eastern winds making them in a way more pleasant. And with the growth of the sand plates and young dunes they feel less barren to me. Of course I realise that I’m here during the shift from autumn to winter, and with western winds this probably is different. This also is a period without many tourists. In fact, yesterday I didn’t encounter anybody for three hours, whereas today I encountered three persons who ventured out onto the beach for 10 minutes before returning behind the dunes. I like this isolation when on a project like this, but I can understand it is not to everybody's liking.

Enjoy!
