Home sweet home
It has been almost a week since my photography retreat came to an end. And what a great retreat it was. I thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks on Schiermonnikoog and the challenges I set myself, both in walking and photography. In fact the two weeks felt too short and being back now they tasted like more. So rest assured that I will go on future retreats , setting new goals and challenges for myself.
As I picked up my work immediately and spent two days getting into medical circuits, that will take up several months, with my leg I only find time today to write my last post on my retreat. But I have ideas on how to continue with my blogs albeit on a lower frequency. Plus I intend to make a newsletter summarising all blogs, so if you havent subscribed to my newsletter, now is a good time to do so.
A few statistics about my retreat:
Around 2500 photos made
On average I walked almost nine kilometers per day, totalling 170000 walking steps
Visits to:
Western beach and dunes: 7 times
Northern beach and dunes: 6 times
Wadden beach: 5 times
Old dunes with pine trees: 4 times
Lighthouse area: 7 times
Now the big task lays ahead to make a selection of my best photos. While writing my daily blog I made quick daily selections, they will help me getting started now as I can revisit them, check whether my initial cropping stands the test of a second look. But more importantly going over all photo’s again to determine if I choose the best photo in a series, or maybe want to choose another one. And after this selection I have to decide on the final products of my retreat. As mentioned before, the blog with a summarising newsletter will be one product, but I also want to make physical end products. For sure I will make a photo book for myself, printed on a large format with superb quality. But I also want to make a zine that I can sell through my website, or that can be a gift whenever I need one and am out of inspiration. So lots of work to do, luckily the Chistmas and new year break is coming up so hopefully I have sufficient time. But for now one parting photo of Hélène and me while we enjoyed Schiermonnikoog on our last day.
Enjoy!
