Exploring the island
Day 2 on the island of Schiermonnikoog.
As I don’t know the island very well I scouted the western part of it today. A nice stroll totalling 11.5 km under favourable weather conditions. Following the gloomy skies yesterday it was actually quite pleasant to walk with a little bit of sunshine, although the cloud formations were still impressive. With the nice colour in the sky I even took a few colour images. I noticed several interesting spots that I want to revisit the coming days, searching for compositions, and following their change with the weather conditions. Speaking of that, today I photographed the lighthouse again, but now side lit by the sun and some wispy clouds in the background. A remarkable change from the gloomy atmosphere I found yesterday, see for yourself with the photo of today depicted below. I hope to find these kind of changes on many scenes the coming days. I have to study the tides a bit more to see how it affects the photos. A lot of ideas are bubbling in my head to be put into practice.
Today I also had a sad ‘encounter’ as I found a dead baby seal laying next to the path I was walking. It was quite far from the water so I wondered how it had gotten there. Its body was already decomposing, showing parts of its skull so it must have been there for some time. It wasn’t a pleasant sight, but alas, that’s nature.
Below is a quick selection of today’s shots. Remember, it was more of a reconnaissance walk so many shots will change/improve over the coming days (I hope 😉).
Enjoy!
