A slightly better sunset, plus a Dickensonian walk in the village
After my first attempt to photograph a sunset over the Wadden ending in snow I tried again yesterday. With slightly better results as well. When I arrived about an hour before sunset the sky was beautifully coloured so I had high hopes. Unfortunately that was short lived as it started snowing again towards the sunset; the sun was still visible as a strangely coloured purple ball, but nu beautiful colours surrounding it. Below is an impression on different timepoints.
In the meantime the view in the opposite direction showed more interesting colours. When I arrived at the dike I contemplated whether it would be better to descend towards the Wadden, but I’m happy I didn’t. I really like how the shots below worked out with the ‘skyline’ of the village and the white ‘Zuidertoren’ and snowy fields in the foreground and mellow colours in the sky.
But my biggest surprise came after I exited an early dinner of Fish ‘n Chips and found the village under heavy snowfall. It was as if I walked straight into a Dickensonian scene. I loved my walk under heavy snow through the village, and these I-phone shots made my day.
All in all not a bad day, even though it was not what I initially hoped for: in the end the experience counts and it was great being out in the cold air. And the evening walk shows that it is good to always carry a camera with you, in my case my I-phone as my Fujufilm X-T4 dropped out because of the cold again.
A quick update on my leg; I visited a GP on the island because I was worried about the swelling that occurs after my walks. The GP confirmed that most likely this was still the after effects of my accident mid February, although he couldn’t exclude a thrombosis leg. He suggested to maybe take a pause one day, which effectively I did today. After walking to the bakery twice (I forgot my money the first time so had to walk back to pay a second time 😂) that four kilometers were enough for my leg to protest and demand a day of rest. It was maybe also a good day for it as the weather has been not as exciting as the last few days, allowing me to do some household jobs and catch up on my photo backups and work. So, no new photos tomorrow, but no fear, I’m still working on the photo’s of two days ago (the walk between Kapenglop en Arnicaweide) that figuratively speaking got ‘snowed under’. So, I am planning a blog post on those tomorrow. And hopefully my leg feels better, and my Fujifiml X-T4 doesn’t buckle under the cold, so I can go for another walk. Maybe I try a sunrise for a change … who knows.
Enjoy!
